    内容提要
    外国美术史所包含的范围*为广泛，中国以外的 国家、地区都应该算在内。但是，从美术成就和线索 明晰角度上看，仍然是以西方为主，尽管反对“欧洲 中心论”的学者们提出各种理由否认“欧洲中心论” ，实际上，欧洲艺术的广泛而持久的影响是无法否认 的。因此，这本由宋玉成*的《外国美术史教程》以 美术发达的西方诸国和东方的印度以及日本为主要叙 述对象。
    笔者曾在中国艺术研究院、鲁迅美术学院从事外 国美术史教学与学术研究，并多次赴欧洲诸国实地考 察，从业30年来积累了丰富的外国美术史史料资源。
    对外国美术史所涉猎的有关问题，诸如哪些是外国美 术名作、如何解读这些作品、为什么某位艺术家会被 载入美术史册、如何看待特定时空下艺术家的贡献、 艺术发展中的风格演变带来怎样的美学新观念等，都 有比较详尽的了解。撰写本书旨在给美术院校提供一 部适用的教材，也为对外国美术史有兴趣的读者提供 一本可读性较强的美术史书籍。
